Split circular chrome alloy button dies are commonly used with a die stock handle for cutting or restoring external threads. They are suitable for chasing damaged threads as well as creating new male threads on non-ferrous metals and plastics. Chrome alloy dies are not suitable for producing precision, safety-critical, or high-tolerance threads.

The UNF thread form was introduced in 1948 as part of a standardisation effort across the USA, Canada, and the UK. The thread profile is the same as metric threads and is defined in the JIS B0206 standard. UNF threads are specified by their major diameter and the number of threads per inch (TPI).

Compared with UNC, the UNF series provides a greater tensile stress area for the same nominal size, making fine threads more resistant to stripping under high loads. Fine threads are also preferred when the length of thread engagement is limited or where a thinner wall section requires a finer pitch.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 12G diameter with 28 TPI UNF thread
  • 1" OD chrome alloy split button die
  • Ideal for thread cleaning, repair, and light thread cutting
  • Standard UNF thread profile for compatibility with common fasteners
  • Fine pitch provides increased tensile stress area compared to coarse threads
  • Durable chrome alloy construction for long service life
  • Suitable for aluminium, brass, bronze, and plastics
  • Designed for use with standard die stock handles

Technical Specifications

  • Thread Size: 12G
  • Pitch: 28 TPI
  • Thread Form: UNF
  • Outer Diameter: 1"
  • Material: Chrome Alloy
  • Type: Split Button Die

UNF threads are used in applications requiring higher strength, improved load distribution, and better resistance to vibration. They are also preferred when limited material thickness requires a finer thread pitch.
